2005 VUE Red Line
Attention Unique Redline Vue transmission...?

I was scanning through my 2005 RL owners manual page 5-101 "Capacities and Specifications" and notice there is a seperate code for the RL's 5 speed auto tranny (RPO MJ8). The non RL 5 speed auto is listed as RPO MJ7. It says it holds 4.1 quarts of fluid compared to the 4.5 quarts of a non RL Tranny. Does the RL really have its own unique transmission? Maybe it has a harder shift kit, diffent ratio gears, or something? Not to rehash the towing topic but this could influence the whole suposed towing limits they created that nobody gives a clear reason behind the "ban".

Any comments?

Nope. It's the same trans. There might be a fluid capacity difference betwen FWD and AWD if the trans fluid is shared with the PTU.

Did a search and found this:
http://www.thebiglot.com/reviews/200...VUE_REVIEW.asp
Says MJ7 = FWD, MJ8 = AWD

Doesn't the VUE have a CVT?

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!

The only CVT in Saturn's history is the abyssmal VTi "experiment", and that was only offered on 4-bangers for a couple years (up through mid-year 2004 IIRC). The transmission, drivetrain, and RDM for RedLines is exactly the same as on a non-RL. The only mechanical differences are the size of the wheels, the springs, shocks, and shock pads (the rubber part at the top of the spring), and the front struts. Otherwise, it's different plastic bits.
