Default '08 Aura XR engine hesitates/pulses on acceleration

Hi all,

Aura XR with 138,000 miles.

On moderate to hard acceleration, the engine 'pulses' - hesitates/catches/hesitates, etc. maybe twice/second until load is reduced.

No codes are thrown.

Happens in any gear whether in D or in manual shift mode.

I have removed and cleaned the TB and MAF, new air filter, new plugs (old ones were very consistent).

I've inspected the intake boots and piping for a crack that might open when the engine moves during acceleration but it's all good.

Not sure where to look without throwing money at random things like MAF, etc.

Motor mounts? I haven't inspected them yet.

Any guidance is most appreciated.

Pulses on acceleration sounds like misfires on one or some cylinders, ignition coil is possibly bad. A bunt valve will likely cause a rough idle to.

also this high of mileage worn timing chains (3.6L) can cause rough idle and misfires at idle.

misfires and worn chain should set codes

Thanks.

Idle is smooth like butter.

I'd have thought that a bad coil would could reveal itself in the plug, but I'll check what i can.

Just wish it would throw a code so I'd know which one to start with.

?? 138,000 miles on a timing CHAIN is nothing,,,,if the oil has been kept full and changed regularly.

My 96 suburban has 330K on original chain and runs smooth and quiet.

To add to the symptoms, this is an intermittent issue. It does not seem to be tied to the weather or humidity. It's 44 degrees and drizzly out today and the engine is running beautifully.

Well, back in the '70s, the aftermarket sold water injector systems to 'burn' water and the humidity was told to help mileage and keeping the engine cleaner. Not sure if those systems compromised iron engines.
But, the aftermarket still sells (ebay) water-based fuel cell technology....battery current splits the H and the O2 and supposedly the burning the extra hydrogen offsets the electrical drain to give mpg a small boost. HAHA No gain with out pain.

I had this problem it would sputter and stop at a "stop" but would run fine when going at speed. It was a bad MAF sensor wiring I think it was a faulty plug the mechanic took the bad wire and jumped it directly onto the MAF sensor.
