Default SOHC engine w/low miles real?

ok so there's this shop prob bout 30-40 mins away from me selling engines...

2000 sohc engine --50k miles--$400
1999-02-(forgot year_ dohc with trans mission-27 k miles for $550
they have a bunch of other engines just using the two that caught my eye (most of them all have low miles the one with the most was 108k for 300 or 350

would you believe that or just be skeptical

i think it would totally be worth it but i dont believe the mileage

I would think that you VIN # and run it through autocheck or carfax and see what it comes back with.

They may be engines that they have had in inventory for a long time. Depending on what they did to properly store them it's hard to say if the mileage means anything. Not sure I would pay a crazy amount to get a really low mileage motor. A compression test would be useful, assuming they don't cheat.

+1, if you can compression test it, that would be helpful. Check the fluids and bring a breaker bar with some large sockets. Rotate the motor by the crankshaft and make sure nothing is clunking or rattling.

Buying a used motor is a gamble. You may get a good running motor, or you may get a blown one, or you may get one that uses a quart of oil every 200 miles
