Default Body Damage Low Speed Backing

Mrs. tagged it this Am at about 05:30 AM. She's remorseful, I'm uh, oh, ah, where do you get the plastic these days ? I'm the dumbahs that didn't put it in the garage, and left it exposed. Hey !! At least my garage isn't piled to the ceiling with crap !!! Looks like I need a driver's side 1/4 panel. What do you think about the bumper ? Can that pull out ?? Any recommended source of used parts, much obliged.

you could push it out, but I do not think the headlight will sit right. Time to head to the junkyard.

Thanks ODG. The local yard wants $150, for the wrong color. I found aftermarket new for $121, unpainted. I didn't realize the Coupe or SC was a different fender than the sedan/SL.

Aftermarket parts typically don't fit as well as salvage yard OEM. Try http://www.car-part.com for the fender. It's a salvage yard parts database. It's a fender you're looking for, not a quarter panel. 2000-2002 SL, SL1, SL2 and 2000-2001 SW2 will match. SOMETIMES the listing includes the color. To get the color code, open the trunk and lift the carpet; there's a label on the spare tire cover with a series of codes. Look for the codes that end in L and U (the two digits should be the same between them). That indicates the color. If you find a part on car-part.com that appears to match, have the yard find the same code on the donor car, to be sure it's a match.

Also, be prepared for them to say "we don't ship sheet metal" or the like. Politely remind/inform them that it's plastic, weighs about 15 lb, fits easily in a box that's NOT "oversize" to UPS, and should cost no more than about $25 to ship.

Ahaha 150 is a joke. See if you can find a yard where you pull the parts yourself. There is no labor charge included and its much cheaper as well as you may be able to find the right color. It does not need to be painted if money is low, you can do it later. The sc fender is different. As the bumpers are different and so are the headlights.

Tanks !! I found Madpogue's post from last week, and already found and paid for a 2000 SL silver fender. $100............ Then I'm back here and there you are. Ain't the web wonderfull !! Thanks again.

I have noting for contempt for the loco salvage local yard. Rip Off.

and,

The Pick n Pull has met my criteria for Fock Off. They want $2 to walk in. They won't tell, nor can they tell you what cars they have in the yard. No one, no one speakey Ingles'. Fock Them. They look at me like I am an outsider because I don't speak spanish ? Fock em, cause I do speak a little. But F that.

Sorry for the intifada

Oh, they won't ship the fender !!!

I understand, but right now, money is the issue... so sometimes you have to do what you have to do. What is 2 bucks if it can save you 80. Its well worth it to go to a pick and pull. The reason they cannot tell you if they have it is because, they just cut the cats off and put them in the yard, instead of taking of their parts where they can keep and inventory.

Its your best bet for color and price.

most pick and pull places have a set price for everything regaurdless of car. So go online and check out their website and see if they have a price guide. And print it off so they don't try to **** you .

The JY people are shady at all places.

Something else to consider (prior claims adjuster) if you call the yard closest to you you can ask if they have the part(s), just tell em you want a price quote, even if they dont have it ask if they can "run it on the line". There is apparently some kind of radio system, at least in this area, where all the yards will basically put in a bid if they have the part. Not all yards are connected to it, but most of the larger ones that service insurance companies are. You may actually get a better price on a whole front clip if someone has it in the right color.

Your bumper reinforcement (metal bar) is likely bent on the end and the foam piece probably cracked as well.
