Information MEvotech LCA NFG -- STAY AWAY!!

I bought Mevotech LCAs thinking greasable ball joints for my lower control arms might be a good thing

So far I've installed two drivers side and one passenger LCA

The first driver side LCA wouldn't take grease and when I tried it popped the lower metal cap

Second driver side LCA took grease and started popping after a spirited test drive

Passenger side went on fine and took grease started popping after 300 miles!

So I went and bought MOOG (which I should have done the first time)

Car is finally good after installing LCA's 5x

Verdict: Mevotech LCA stay away!!

Unfortunately no they are not greaseable but I have a set of MOOG LCAs on my SL2 that are just starting to go out.

Originally I thought I had put them on two years ago so I went looking for another brand but after looking up the receipts it turns out it was 4 years ago so thats around 75,000 miles Ive put on them better than 0-300 miles

Still I'd like to get 100,000+ like the originals

Was that the Mevotech Supreme or the economy grade?

I'm running the Supreme and haven't had any issues.

With Moog it's hit & miss on the grease fitting. Part number doesn't matter. I've had identical labels on box's and gotten 1 of each (checked at home 45min from the store..."too late to fix now").

I read in an early thread that you modified the zerk fittings so you could grease the control arms with the wheels on - would that void the lifetime limited warranty of your Mevotechs? Just curious.

I tend to really research out the warranty/pros & cons of anything I replace since I put less than 8,500 miles on my car a year.

That is the one that I bought last June that also didnít work.

fetchitfido, how long ago was it you did your control arms? Iíve had a theory that they are on a bad batch of drivers side control arms.

You have to install the grease zerks yourself and I can't see voiding the warranty based on installing 90 degree grease zerks. It doesn't change the operation and performance one bit. Just the path that the grease takes.

I actually called MevoTech's customer support line and suggested they change what they supply from the factory and the reasons why. They said it was a good idea and that they would forward it up the chain.

Yes, those are the same ones. I ordered them from RockAuto.com as well.

Originally installed May 2018 and you've got a good memory; I replaced the front left LCA under warranty in early June 2019 due to a worn ball joint. Actually I warrantied both of them even though the right one seemed good. I had forgotten about that.

That said, after the initial LCA install I ran the car for 5 months on a botched alignment which destroyed my front tires and subsequently at the 8 month mark I had to replace the left hub bearing assembly. I chalked the early LCA failure at 13 months (8K km) up to the stress of the alignment issue and/or the bad hub bearing assembly issue.

Since June 2019 I've put about 24K km (15K mi) on the car and the LCA has not given me any issues.

I replaced both original lower control arms and tie rods at about 220,000 miles last month although I only have one of the original inner tie rods. I replaced the original shocks and struts at about 215,000 miles. The original sway bar bracket bushings were replaced at about 219,000 miles.

Is it normal for original parts to last that long or is it because I live in California, closely maintain my car and drive like a grandma?

A lubrication accessory is a 'needle' type that attaches to grease gun...
it facilitates grease injection thru/under/between apertures about 1/16".

TRW LCAs are/were available from Taiwan (maybe via PartGeek).

Quality suspension components are available through NAPA...
ask for DANA components.

Suspension & brake component failure can potentially result in lost lives; also consider the value of the labor involved.
MY Rule for used car operations, is that repairs need to last at least 8 years or 80k Miles, else always maintaining the car....

We had our wheels off today and put 90 degree zerks on our Mevotechs. About 1000 miles driven by my spirited 18yo and no issues.

i put mevotechs on my 2006 HHR and with in a year i needed new ones. when i tell you they were shot the bushings were crumbling.

the moogs i put on lasted me like 3 years and i just redid them yesterday and they were almost as bad.

why dont they give us options of adding poly urethane or some other better material for the bushings. i get it that they have built in degradation into it so you will need to rebuy and keep their business going. but i would at least like to get the 60,000 that chevy originally gave these.

i really should do my saturns but since its just me traveling 2 miles a day to the train station barely getting to 40 for a short stint.

Sadly, it's becoming harder to find quality parts for the S series as the OEM part supply dries up.

I understand though many that own these cars have no money and the cheap stuff moves fastest. It sucks knowing you're putting on a POS part that you'll have to do again in 1-2 years.

I replaced an OEM muffler with a Walker Quietflow Stainless steel one about 2 years back. While the stainless is holding up, the internal welds holding the chambers together have broken loose causing it to rattle under harder acceleration...it's just junk.
