Question LW liftgate latch not working.

Hello

03 LW200 with 234K and still running well.

My liftgate latch started not latching and locking the gate this past winter. The problem came and went a few times and now will not latch on the striker at all. I Oiled the latch and there is no visable damage to latch and hook. I would appreciate repair tips. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Does your remote release the lift gate latch when you operate the remote?

When you push the driver's door lock/unlock button several times does that release the latch?

The striker can be adjusted with the proper size torx socket if there is a mis- alignment here.

In short, explain in much further detail the issues you are having. If it really will not latch, how are you keeping the lift gate closed? The gas struts will raise the liftgate unless they are worn out.

We'll figure it out and get this taken care of.

Looks like we lost the OP, but I have a related question. Can these locks be fixed. My Bride's 03LW had the same problem. I did find one. ( Reasonable money because car was mismarked as an Astra? at yard & key was missing), But the glut of parts has ceased for these cars.

^^ It is doubtful that the lock can be repaired. I ran into one in a JY one day. Did not realize that is was damaged before I pulled it. Looked like the internal main shaft just sheared off.

The JY lock you got should work just fine assuming your actuator still functions. Just won't be able to use a key since you did not get one.

I always pull the whole tailgate lock assembly when I find a wagon with keys.

Agreed that parts for these cars are not easy to find now. Especially the wagons!

Good point, I never thought about keys. Door unlock at door switch and clicker work. Would be nice if we could get gm to loosen up about key codes. I could get the VIN, but I seldom have any luck with them with out a title.

What am I thinking. the key goes into the keylock assembly. The latch is separate. It operates with a braided wire like a bycicle brake. My key doesn't match anyway cause I already changed the lock assy.

^^ It takes a personal relationship with someone at the dealer to get a key cut from a VIN. Someone who knows you well and can vouch for you that you are not a thief. Do you know someone like that? Sales Staff, Service Staff?

I've got one but they seldom can go past the dealership rules. I'm in asking stupid questions about Saturns all the time. They say "not you again". Even if they had any parts for them, I couldn't afford their prices. Every once in a while they will weaken. It would be nice just to know you can just get a key. I can't say " Who would steal a Saturn" , cause I had one stolen. They had my tenants move their cars so they could steal it? At least I hadn't started working on it.

hi sages- going to a local locksmith is often successful. they can cut a new key if you can take out and show them the key lock cylinder. many have the cylinder pins or needles of various sizes to do this . you might be clipped but not as badly as at a dealer. good luck bob f
