1996 SC2
Default A couple pics of my '96 SC2

Nothing special really, and probably nothing you guys haven't seen before, but here it is.

On the way home the day I bought it

After a MUCH needed bath, and I found that the paint is actually in MUCH worse shape then I had thought - scratches and HORRIBLE swirls everywhere. It will be getting a full three stage polish in the spring

Interior is very clean, I just wish it had power windows and locks, and I need to find out what I need to do to get an aftermarket stereo in it - stock just don't cut it.

I really like the car, though it is terribly slow compared to my Cutlass, so I have been looking around here a bit and plan to do a few mods to it in the future. Most likely some head work as well as dual intake cams, a CAI, and who knows... maybe down the road a turbo, but that is doubtful. The factory wheels gotta go as well, I would like to find some 16" or 17" wheels for it, but something nice, I don't want the car to look riced out. Might tint the corner lights as well as tail and reverse lights also, but not sure on that yet.

Mine may not be "fast" but it's much faster then stock. Mine also might be that clean if I spent time with a vacuum on the interior but even as-is its cleaner then it was when I bought it from a guy who lives/works on a farm

Can't see the normal "damage" on the spoiler in the pics (mine looks horrible) and it looks like your roof is in better shape then mine even though I've got more headroom w/o a sunroof.
Kinda makes me wish I had a red one instead of gold.

What is the normal damage on the spoiler? Mine is all faded and oxidized horribly, no shine on it at all... I plan to fix that though. When I detail it, I will remove hopefully 80 - 90% of the scratches and all of the swirls, hazing, and oxidation.

very nice! Paint & stuff can be worked on, big thing is there are no cracks etc and your interior isn't trashed.

You have the 2nd gen interior - for the stereo, you will Metra (99-3105) mounting kit. $17
(American International GM-K4118 can also be used. It has the same design but shallower pocket)

You'll also need a wiring adapter (70-1858) $9

and an antenna adapter (40-GM10). $4

Prices below are eBay, shipped, from about a year ago - if you search on the part numbers in parentheses, that should find the right part

That's the normal stuff. Fairly easy/cheap to fix but looks expensive before it is.

Did some of the '96s get the 1st gen interior? I actually remember a few things I liked better about the interior of my old '91, but not a big deal.

I already have a few wiring adapters and antenna adapters laying around, but I really appreciate you directing me to exactly what I need as far as the mounting kit!

I detail cars as a hobby, so it actually will only cost me time and I will have it looking amazing with deep wet glossy looking paint

Looks great.
One of the best Saturns ever made.
Your car is a pretty much perfect color combo as well.

Just make sure the subframe is in good shape and she should be fine for a while to come.

I think 95 got the 2nd gen interior - they did in the sedans and wagons so I am guessing the coupes got it, too.

The sedan and wagon didn't get 2nd gen exterior body styles until 96 and the coupes were a year behind, so 97 is when the body style for the coupe changed

Yeah that's how it goes.
95/96 coupes are essentially the same, but 95 is OBD1 and 96 is OBD2 with the different cam covers etc.

I thought that the '95's were the last with the pop-up headlights, and the '96 SC2's had the same fixed headlights as the 1st Gen SC's and SC1's. Did I miss something in Saturn SC 101, LOL?

Anyway, nice SC2, both interior and exterior,

"red" steering wheel cover ditched a LOOONG time ago!

As far as the spoiler is concerned, I think it's just the clear coat that has come off. On mine, the spoiler, the top of the driver's side front fender, and the passenger side headlight cover all had the clear coat peeled off. I might try to clean those areas and try to get them re-coated. I'm not sure how practical that would be, just a thought.

Jerry

the 1991-92 SC and 1993-96 SC2 had pop-up headlamps.
the 1993-96 SC1 had fixed headlamps like the sedan.
1997-2000 and 2001-02 SC1 and SC2 had fixed headlamps unique to the coupe.

Ok, this is what confused me:

Now, the description states that this is a '96 SC1. Now, all the years before and since I've seen of SC1's, the front and rear bumpers were NOT body color. Am I totally confused, as I've seen several SC's like this one, and I assumed they were '96 SC2's. Thanks!

I don't recall ever seeing any SC whether it be SC1 or SC2 without color matched bumpers.

The only time you can perhaps say they are not color matched is the earlier SC's were two tone with a grey bottom half.. Other than that, I've only ever seen color matched.
SL and SW had grey bumpers available though for all years in the US.

gearhead + SaturnNJeep,

Your cars remind me of my own -
1995 SC2 in Maroon/Plum
5SPD/Leather/Cruise

Mine has a "two-tone" interior. Basically when I picked it up, the interior was all tan but had badly worn driver seat and dirty, nasty looking inner door panels. I've swapped in black leather seats, black door panels, and black center console with armrest. Replaced the old tan carpet with charcoal grey. Replaced the headliner with burgundy material that is close to the exterior color.

Not sure whether I'm willing to go the extra distance to swap the rest of the interior, which looks to be in pretty good shape.
