Could be the cluster or the VSS. How long has this been happening and has any recent repairs been done on your vehicle? Is the odometer working properly?

The VSS is the vehicle speed sensor. Its located on the back of the transmission and shoud have a plug and wires attached to it...

Ok, now you've listed two separate but potentially related problems. Are you saying that BOTH the Speedometer AND the odometer(s) are not working? They both use the signal from the VSS. The VSS is on the firewall side of the transmission, right below the throttle body and EGR valve.

Drive to where you can coast safely, accelerate to, say, 20 MPH, push in the clutch and floor the accelerator. If the RPMs won't go past about 4000-4500, the VSS isn't working, or at least, it's not sending a signal to the PCM.

thanks for the help i found the sensor and one of the wires was cut so a little strip a little twist and a little tape and i now have a speedometer and mileage which makes me wonder how long it had been going on with the previous owner and they didnt disclose that so it could have a lot more miles on it is suppose

That's true, mine was disconnected for 2 years and the previous owner made trips from al to nc frequently. It shows 260k but i bet its got over 300k on it...but glad you got it going..
