Default Honda Trans?

Sorry to make another thread. I've run a few forum searches and have found a LOT of info, but I want to make sure I have it all right in my head.

Are these transmissions (04 3.5 AWD) common for problems? I was told on another forum I need to be careful with the Honda trans.... So far most of the problems I've found seem to be about the VTI trans which was only on the 4cyl vues? Did I get this right?

Also, my Vue has 58,000 KMS on it (37000 Miles)... when/what maintenance is recommended on this trans?

(sorry to be an annoying noob, I've had zero luck in finding an owner's manual.)

The transmission's good, but not perfect. In the TL and MDX the trannys went out around 80-90k miles. They actually extended the warranty on some of them due to the problem. People don't seem to have as many issues with them in the Vue, could be due to lighter weight? People seemed to have more issues with RDMs than transmissions though.

Transmission fluid breaks down from heat more than miles. The 05 and newer Hondamatics had a improved oiling system. The olders ones can be retrofitted if you have problems.

IMO...
If you do a lot of city driving, high speed highway, or towing, I recommend changing the fluid yearly.

If you are a light driver, change it every 2 years.

On a new VUE, I would change it during the first year to get the particles left over from it's manufacture.

OK, well it sounds like I'll be changing the fluid in the near future. Is it just a straight forward drain and refill, or am I looking at something more than that? I know already that I have to use Honda ATF-Z1. Can anyone tell me how much?

And I found an owner's manual. I'll be picking it up on Friday. Hopefully it will answer most of my silly questions before I have to ask.

Oh, and is there a cheap service manual to be found anywhere? Or any service manual for that matter? I know my way around an engine bay, but it would be nice to have torque specs and pics/diagrams for when I get stuck.

Thanks very much for the replies thus far.

I have owned 4 awd vues with honda drivetrains
my 04 Had tranny issues(torque converter)
my 05/06/07 have been fine.
Have had to replace the rear rdm in all of em...the 04 & 05 were done twice. The 06 rdm had catastrophic failure & basically liquified. The 07 just went at 25000.
