Eh, there's different ways but whatever you do, don't use high pressured hoses (ex at a coin operated wash) to do it with.... I made the mistake of doing this and got water in the plug holes

Simple Green will eventually discolor/spot aluminum. Read the label.

Excellent advice.

I would suggest using a garden sprayer attachment and cleaning it that way. Don't go heavy on chemicals or detergent soaps though, that can be bad news for your engine.

You just need to ask yourself if its worth the risk of doing it yourself, if you aren't comfortable doing it, or taking it a pro detailer and paying them 75 bucks or so to do it professionally. I would choose the latter, but thats just cautious old me talking.

Good luck.

Cover the alternator/PCM
Lighty mist a organic degreaser (Simple Green also eats rubber hoses) using a weed killer sprayer
hose off with garden hose
repeat if necessary

I make a mix of 1 part car wash soap (be liberal with this), 1 part plain white armor-all, and 2 parts warm water in a professional spray gun. After washing the engine and running it a bit to dry it off, and blowing it off with compressed air (if you have it available), wipe down the black plastic parts with the plain Armor-all on a rag.

I've been doing my own for years this way, and have done a few of the used cars on the lot at Saturn this way before delivery... works like a charm and makes it shine like new. The light coating of Armor-all doesn't attract dust (as long as it is the plain stuff, the low gloss and Detailer's Advantage lines tend to be more sticky.
