2000 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default LS1 transaxle side cover

Hi,

I'm replacing the TCC solenoid on my 2000 LS1, along with it I'll be replacing the PCS since I've read that they fail frequently.

I have the transaxle side cover loose, but I cannot seem to get it out. I found the "remove front subframe" step in alldata and I'm preparing to do that, but I thought I'd ask a couple questions.

If I was to remove the battery bracket that is spot welded to the frame (and reattach it later with rivets) would that get me enough clearance to remove the cover from the top?

The alldata procedure mentions that a frame alignment tool is used when removing the front sub-frame. I don't have this tool, so how far off can I really get with the frame alignment if I'm able to run in all of the bolts?

Would it be enough to simply lower the driver's side of the subframe and let the passenger side stay bolted up?

Thanks much!

slightly lower subframe on only the side, be careful not to drop the clips that hold the solenoids in would be a catastrophe

Thanks for the info!

So do I even need to loosen the bolts on the opposite side? I assume I couldn't affect the frame alignment that much if I'm only lowering one side, I did scribe markings around the bushings just to be sure.

The solenoid clips just pry out of the valve body I think? Are there any springs behind either solenoid that have a tendency to fly out (or anything else that likes to go flying)?

Thanks!
