Default LW1 2000 - fuelt tanks straps / engine rebuilt questions

I broke a fuel tank strap on the LW1. Broke one 3 years ago and ordered part from RockAuto, but the set that came in were the wrong match. Only one was installed. Now the old one which was left is broken.

I do not seem to be able to find the straps on line here in Canada and I need one really badly (passenger side). Any ideas?

My engine is also using quite a bit of oil since about 6 years ago. I am kind of attached to the vehicle so I would consider paying for an engine rebuilt. But I am unsure what I can expect with that and if it is a viable option.

The car must have over 350,000 kilometers by now. I do not notice lack of power; maybe the engine noise is different but hard to tell any more.

You can probably just make a fuel tank strap if you have a pattern. Your 2000 model has the smaller fuel tank, 2001-2005 have a 15.5 gallon tank.

The engine was used all the way to approximately 2007 in most GM car lines. The thermostat housing is different than the Cavalier and Alero cars. Just use the long block if you can find a low mile later model engine. Make sure the engine has a provision for the power steering pump.

I am going to put an engine out of a 2007 Saab 9-3 into my 2002. The Saab engine is turbocharged and I have to change the crank trigger wheel but the basic engine is the same design.

I am at 386,000 km on my original engine.

02 LW300 is correct about the straps. Our model year 2000 L's have a smaller fuel tank: 13.1 gallons (49.6[?] liters). Short of getting lucky enough to find a M.Y. 2000 L-Series car at a wrecking yard somewhere within Canada, I agree with him that fabricating a replacement might be the simplest solution to your concern here. This link, https://www.car-part.com/mobile/index.htm, might help in your search for that part at wrecking yards in your country.

Our 2.2L engines for that year also had another difference with later model years: our engines don't have an EGR valve. If you find a long block (head and crank case) from latter 2001 onwards you'll need to acquire a block-off plate for the location where the EGR valve mounts on to the cylinder head.

I have samples of 2000, 01,02 and 03 and none have an egr valve. Just the block off plate. I guess I have not looked that close at the 2000, I do know it has no compression.
