Default How-to Checking a junkyard sunroof - video

Here's a how-to video for checking the operation of a junkyard sunroof before you go to the trouble of removing it and paying your valuable cash for.

I've decided to go the junkyard route for repairing my dead sunroof, but wanted to make sure the one I took worked before I removed my old one, installed the new (used one), only to find out it didn't work.

You don't need to take the headliner down - just reach in and grab that power connector.

I just went to two junk yards and tested probably 5 saturns and all had inoperable sunroofs...

That sound that that sunroof is making, is that one of those plastic guides is broken? That is the exact same sound that my sunroof makes, and it also gets very similar travel to that one.

Yes. I took the sunroof module out of that parts car and hooked it up to the battery on the garage floor. The plastic guides are junk. Every car I tested in the junkyard sounded and behaved the exact same way. I think even if I replaced mine with a used one it would die eventually.

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a sunroof doctor rebuilt module for $340.00. I think this addresses the weakness of the plastic guides by replacing them with aluminum guides.

Thats exactly how I do it as well. I also do something similar to test power window regulators while at the junkyard.
