Default Engine swap

I just bought a Saturn sl2 2001 for $200.00. The car front fender and knuckle is damage but the engine is in tact and has 85k miles. My engine on my Saturn sl2 2002 is having problem with knocking and oil leak. Iím going to swap the engine I just need to know while I have the engine out what else should be replaced while I have the engine out? I know spark plugs maybe new water pump. Should I re do the sealant for the valve cover and oil pan to save me time in the future . Thanks for the help in advance

If the oil pan, cam cover, and water pump are not leaking now, I'd leave them alone!

How much do you want to spend?

Assuming you are a cheap and lazy bastidge like I am, while the engine will be out . . .
  • gently backflush the heater core (that's staying in your old car, how many miles does that have?)
  • check/replace the ECTS as needed
  • clean EGR, remove exhaust manifold and clean EGR and AIR passages
  • replace the top starter bolt with a stud to make future replacement easier
  • Check that plastic coolant nipple or whatever that is under the 3rd gen intakes and breaks/ leaks all the time, replace if not already done
  • serpentine belt if needed

If a manual trans, new clutch? with only 85k miles, assuming the donor car was cared for, I wouldn't think it would need much.

Replace the rear heater hoses. They are easy to get to with the motor out but a total pain with the motor in place.

actually if it were me I'd replace anything that was old or questionable but then again I drive my car a TON.

My list would be
heater hoses
radiator hoses
belt
motor mount if it needs it
dog bones if it needs it
axle seals (if you pull the trans too)

Good Luck
