Default Cant Unlock Door

I cant open the door on my 96 SL1 (power door locks) inside or out.
With the outer panel removed how would you open the latch?

Thank You

I may be missing something, but how are you going to get the
outer skin off without opening the door?

Once the skin is off, you can follow the rods from the outer
door lock tumblers down to the latch assembly. I'm betting
that an outer door lock rod is unhooked from the latch, thus the
key does nothing. My car was like that when I purchased it,
and I still haven't fixed it (keyless entry). If it's a back
door, the child safety lock may be engaged, and the outer
handle rod is dislodged. Any one or more of the rods
can be dislodged with a locksmiths tool as he tries to
"jimmy" the door from outside to get it open. That's
exactly what happened to my own car.

If the lock rod is unhooked, you'll have to either take apart
the other door to use as an example, or come up with a
picture of the assembled latch with rods. There are likely
4 rods that hook to it. Inner and outer door handles, and
inner and outer door locks. Pay close attention to the outer
door lock rods on front doors, and outer door handle rods
on rear doors.

Or do you mean that the latch is stuck closed while the door is open, and you
can't get the door to latch closed?

I was in an accident and the outer panel was sheared off and the door wont open. Im only assuming at this point its the latch until i really inspect it.

If you were in a collision, that damaged the chassis area of the latch/striker, it may be jammed. It is still possible to open the door, it just may not actually shut.

Your outer door handle area should have a rod that travels to the latch, for releasing it. You will have to pull it up.

As far as unlocking the latch, there is a rod from the lock assembly you will want to trace.
