Default how to fix a hand brake boot?

the cloth is in poor shape with vinyl flaking off (see attached picture).
i tried junk yard and they are all the same (probably due to sun and heat).

has anyone reconditioned the cloth with some kind of dye?
thanks!

Sorry, but all I can see is you at a table saw with a chunk of leather. You can always have an upholsterer re do it.or just buy a new one.

Mine is the same way. I thought about taking it off and hand sanding it (just to get the peeling stuff off) then go to O'Reilly auto parts and get some dye. (Dye flexes so it wont peel like paint) then dye it black give it a fresh look. How much is a new one does anyone know?

no need to hand sand it. just the process of hand washing peals all the vinyl.
i need to look into that cloth dye. i'm not going to spend $50 for something that will flake again in sun.

Dizzy Re: how to fix a hand brake boot?

I took a closer look at mine today and yes the black just peels off exposing the cloth. At Orielly auto parts here in town there is a dye or spray paint made for vinyl. I would just just use that and paint it black. That should look alot better! I will probably do that to mine because its been bugging me too.

Just a thought. I have a local leather crafter who has done some great custom work for me at reasonable prices.

Ok so it just stretches over the e brake handle. Ok sounds simple enough. I found a boot that was in almost brand new condition.

Redlinegoods.com has replacement boots for the manual trans and e-brake for $49. A little steep, but from the pics, they look to be good quality leather.
