Default Seat cushion replacement?

I have a really bad driver's seat in my 92 SL1 - it's starting to make my legs go numb when I drive. The cushion seems to have sort of collapsed into/onto the plastic frame.

What is the easiest way to deal with this? I really don't want to pull the whole seat out, is it possible to just replace the cushion somehow without removing the whole thing? Aslo finding a whole seat at a junkyard that is in good shape and the right model and color seems daunting, but I think I could just buy the cushion part from Saturn from what I've read elsewhere.

Short of that I need to find some sort of good temporary seat cushion to sit on. Any suggestions appreciated.

Duncan

To replace the seat cushion you will need to disassemble the seat, which means you would have to take it out of the car. It comes out with 4 bolts and one connector. Suggest PB Blasting them first. I had one bolt freeze up and round out on me. (Yes I always use 6 point sockets) Ended up cutting it off than drilling it out. Not easy to get too on the front inside.

If you find the Saturn part number for the cushion let the forum know.

I've never seen a saturn part number for the seat cushion. I would think its a LOT less work just to replace it with a good junkyard one if you can find one.

I've been looking for one too. The issue is always just matching the color.

From what I understand, the covers are removable. There is a "How to" tutorial on taking the seat apart and refurbishing, but all of them involve removing the seat, (naturally) which is pretty easy, so might as well just drop a new/used one in and you're done.

Good luck. If you do better than that, I would love to know about it.

This might be totally off base , but a few years ago I discovered a seat adjustment on the drivers side seat by the door that looks like a big round knob. It raised up the cushion. Had the car seven years before I found that or even thought to look . I won't be offended if you have already tried and that. But if not, its the easiest fix.

Change the whole seat. It's holding down by four bolts. That's all!

Junkyards are not looking good. Lots of bad, moldy, wrong-colored seats. Maybe I could slide some foam rubber under the existing cushion...

Someone said you could swap the passenger and driver's seats, but I'm not sure how the hardware would work with the levers and stuff. Are they wrong or is this possible?

You can swap the seat foam from the passenger side to the driver side seat.

Here are instructions from the How to library on this site.

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...ht=change+seat

Good luck. I was at the junkyard this very morning in Hayward, CA and they did look pretty bad. I was thinking of calling some others. Seems no one sells the cushion part of the seat, which, of course is the part that wears out! If anyone knows a good place to buy seats that ship, please post.

Thank you most awesome forum and members in the 'verse.

The Pick-n-Pull in Newark and the two in San Jose have tons of S-Series.

The part number for the seat cushion is 21045703 for 1991-1995 w/o leather and 21045956 if you have leather.
