Default '97 SC2 heater hose removal for heater core flush

The heater isn't putting out as well as it used to, so I replaced the thermostat (it was the original) since the temp was only about 1/4 on the gauge, and checked the mixing doors which seem to be working.

Checked the heater hoses, and they aren't very equal in temp, so I want to flush the heater core.

On the intake side, the hose clamp is turned in toward the engine to where it's hard to reach. Not sure I can get to it from underneath.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what's the best/easiest way to get the hose clamp off?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

"intake side" - for the heater core is the short hose coming from the back of the cyl head.
Is this the one your referring to?

When I back flush, I disconnect down by the overflow bottle, pinch the hose using a pair of vise grips, so it can only go backward toward the heater core. Disconnect the short hose mentioned above at the cyl head. turn on the hose and flush till clear.

Yes, it's the closest hose in this pic:

Like the vise grip idea, I'll give it a try.

Well, I was able to get the bottom hose clamp next to the firewall off with pliers, but had to cut the top clamp off with a dremel tool. Just no way to reach those tabs.

Got the core flushed, washed out the coolant tank with dishwasher detergent, got everything back together. Works great, lots of heat now.

Blue92, the vise grip tip worked great, thanks!
