Default can you put a 2.4 block on a 2.2 head

I wounder if the GM designers were thinking ahead and allowed for use 2.2 L owners to utilize the the 2.4 short block. This way we would get the displacement with out having to change out CPU's, fule injection, ect., With older Vw's you could use a 2.0 L undrenieth your 1.8L head with no problem. Anyone have any feed back on this idea? Lastly, why does it cost so much to build up these 4 cylinders and cost so little to build up small block Chevy motor. -- Jim

also for the fact the small block chevy is the most popular engine for people to build up, meaning everyone and their brothers makes parts for it. there is a huge demand, therefore lots of suppliers, therefore competition, therefore price competitions. (lotta therefores)

plus the fact that while there have been many running changes to the small block chevy design it has largely remained unchanged for over 50 years. (just goes to show you how good the original design was.) that means better interchangeability.

there are parts out there for the ecotec (a lot actually), but gm has made a few changes to them over the past three years that prevents universal compatibility.
