Default dumb question about ses light

So, I went to Autozone to read my OBD2 code and it was P0030. I read a bunch of threads here and tested the plug with a digital multimeter andreplaced the O2 sensor on the rear exhaust manifold. The SES light remained on, so I had the guys at AZ reset the SES light, which they were reluctant to do due to its being illegal and all... But I convinced them given that my car isn't due for inspection until January. I didn't try to reset it by disconnecting the battery because I was too lazy to have to reprogram my radio among other things.

My questions are:

1) Should the SES light have gone out on its own?

2) Will it come back on if the problem has not been resolved or does resetting the light effectively ignore that particular code?

Thanks!

Some codes, like the P0030 will eventually reset if the problem is fixed, but that can take several start cycles. So it may have eventually reset, but it may not have.

If the problem still exists, the light will come back on.

Yes it should of went out on its own because to replace the O2 sensor you should of disconnected the neg. battery cable before doing the service. Once the neg. battery cable is unplugged it will clear the SES light.

It will come back if problem not resolved!
