Saturn stops while idling

Hi everyone hope you can help - I have a 2002 SL2 saturn with approx. 100,000 miles - on Dec 4, 2008 I could get the car to start but the car would then stall when idling- the RPM's would drop to zero and the engine would turn off. Took the car to the mechanic and they discovered several History DTCS including P1599 for engine stall and P0341 for CMP sensor circuit fault - mechanic replaced plug wires, spark plugs and ignition module - also checked battery. Battery check came back ok - car has been working fine up until 1/11/09 and again after starting up the car would stall when idling. I actually got the car moving and it was fine as long as I was driving when I came to a red light and had to stop RPM's went to zero and car stopped. Just tried the car again and now is ok - fine when idling - any help would be appreciated.

Clean the IAC. Take the throttle body off and clean all of it and use CRC Electrical Parts Cleaner, in the red can, to spray up inside the guts of the IAC. Be sure that its seat area in the throttle body is clean. Did you buy this car used or have you owned it since new?

Own since new - will try your advice thanks - also read somewhere on one of the post that a member recommended turning the key to the first slot (I think ACC) for like 5 sec before starting - would that actually help?

That allows the fuel pump to fully prime the rail. Only a big deal with the 97 model.

With any luck you have a very dirty throttle body. And IAC.

You can go to the How-To Library and in the first post thee is an index of the richpin DIY videos and links to them. There are 3 on cleaning the throttle body. You can get to the Library by taking the forum jump at the bottom of this page. The videos will help if you have not done this job before.
