2004 ION-2 Sedan
Default End All Suspension Answer Needed

I have a 2004 ION 2 sedan with an automatic and the shocks and struts are starting to squeak and generally the car rolls around corners and I'm getting sick of it, I've looked all over the site and other Saturn forums, yes, the FE5's would be awesome, but I am not much on suspension mods, I've done nearly every lighting mod you can, but when it comes to messing with a suspension it scares me that I'd order the wrong thing or wrong year....so...what exact setup should I get for my car that will bolt in with little to no modification? I have rear drums if that makes any difference....
I need a sure shot coils and shocks/struts answer, I'm saving my money now and don't want it going towards a set that will just blow out soon

Thanks so much!

and yes, my n00bery is enthralling, I just want to do this right!

The squeeking is very likely your bushings for the control arms and the sway bars. Just replace with eurathane and you will be good to go. FE5 control arms are a direct bolt on without any mods, and are known to make a difference.

But what would be the best new coils and shocks answer?

The FE5 control arms for the cobalt SS will be a direct bolt on for the 05 Ions sedans too? That would be great news!! Thanks Dave

Monroe shocks and struts are fine. The OEM were garbage and they need to be replaced a lot sooner than they should be. Just chose a good name brand and you will be ok.

snakes....
You have the FE5's on your 05? how's it handle? I want to put drop springs on it or do something to make it lower, and handle better, did you have any issues with the FE5s and drop springs?

I currently use the FE5 front struts and rear shocks. I paid to have them installed and had no problems. Just for the FE5 front struts they had to use the stock saturn top hats for the FE5 struts. I have B&G springs in it. The ride is a little stiffer and less bouncy than it was when I had the Monroe struts and Monroe sensa trac shocks. The Monroe oem rear shocks didnt last long when the car was lowered and the ride was very bouncy.I unfortunately I have to roll over 2 big speed bumps everyday in and out of my complex so that may have contributed to the early failure. I am still tossing the idea of switching to Eibach springs. I originally had 225/40/18 40 mm offset crome rims on the car and I would get a very slight rub in the rear fender with the lowering springs. mostly over bumps railroad tracks, or if I had people in the back. I took off the 18 inch rims and put on 17's (215/45/17) and have no rubbing issues. Anyways the FE5's are great and also on the ION car forum site(forgot the exact link) all the guys on there are running the FE5's combos on the Saturn Ion redlines and sedans. I am now also thinking of getting the FE5 cobalt SS Lower Control arms for the car.it is prob not needed yet and dont have the money right now, however I had heard wonderful things about them. Wow I wrote alot, lol You can check out the B&G drop on my car on facebook. I have pics in the saturn ION page. or I can send you some pics
