Saturn SKY reliability - better info

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So back in 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

Thanks to the help of this forum, for which I'm very grateful, we've had excellent participation by Saturn owners, and have been providing stats for most Saturn models for a while. I'd love to do the same with the SKY--just a matter of getting enough owners involved. We're close.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the SKY, for free. I'll share results for the SKY in this thread after each update.

We have an initial reliabiliy stat for the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn SKY to include owner experiences through June 30, 2011.

With a reported repair rate of 19 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2007 Solstice and SKY are better tha average, but these cars are driven only about 4,000 miles a year, on average, and the sample size is very small.

We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants we could cover all model years and provide more precise information.

We have an initial reliabiliy stat for the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn SKY (on our redesigned site) to include owner experiences through September 30, 2011.

With a reported repair frequency of 14 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2007 Solstice and SKY are better than average.

Realize, though, that these cars are driven only about 4,000 miles a year, on average, and the sample size is very small.

We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants we could cover all model years and provide more precise information.

We have good data on over 600 model / model year combinations, just not the SKY. Would love to change this.

Have you tried making comparisons to Consumer Reports. I'd think there data would be more accurate...

In this case they do currently have better information, simply because our sample size was so small. If we had even a few dozen owners participating, our information would be more accurate and much more recent, as their methods contain serious flaws and they slowly update their stats only once a year.

Love it! Generally, I just rely upon Consumer Reports, so it's nice to have another set of data. Of course, what counts most is how reliable your Sky is. Towards this end, I change my oil every 3K, which I'm told is a big indicator on how long your great Sky will last.

Note: these cars tend to have low odometer readings--they're not driven much.

Thanks for taking this project on. I've been told by my dealer that with regular maintenance, I should have no problem getting 300K miles out of my Sky.
