Well, considering that there are literally hundreds of choices for after-market head units available I think I would be going to a store with a large selection such as Best Buy and checking out what they have to offer.

I, like you drive an '01 SC2 and I have a Kenwood KDC-MP5028 installed. It's a nice unit with your choice of either blue or red controls--neither of which match the car, but what the heck, it works for me!

The one thing that you might want to keep in mind: Before you tear into this project make sure that you can still find an aftermarket install kit. It took me 3 months to locate one, and then it was by special order only.

Another important thing to keep in mind: As others wiser than myself have posted here, DON'T cut the factory radio harness! You're asking for trouble if you do. Instead get an aftermarket harness that plugs into the factory harness, that way all you have to do is wire the new head unit, the wiring on the car end is done for you.

Good luck!
Mike

I got a Kenwood KDC-MP342U in my 2002 SC2 from Crutchfield. They shipped it for free and supplied Saturn specific installation instructions, wiring harness adapter and dash kit for free. Take a look on www.crutchfield.com and use "Outfit My Car" to see what fits and decide what features you want.

If you do not have all the wiring diagrams for your particular year and model of Saturn buying a head unit from the local fuzzy dice and audio store will not be a happy experience.

I would go with Crutchfield and figure the 10 to 15 over the absolute lowest price was worth having the new unit installed and working in a half hour or so. If you are also installing an external amp plan on running power and ground for it direct from the battery. The cabin wiring will not long support an external amp.
