Default 94 SL2 HCE Power Steering Pump Growl

Since I purchased my car 3 years ago, the power steering pump has growled. The tone goes up as the RPM goes up. It's rather loud and it never stops.

I originally thought it was one of the pulleys (idler or tensioner), so I replaced them both along with the serpentine belt. It was an inexpensive fix, but it didn't help. I've topped of the fluid once (small amount: down about 1/2 inch), though I see no leaks.

I finally borrowed an engine stethoscope, and tracked it down to the power steering pump, thus eliminating the alternator. (I know; should have done that first.)

Is there a chance that a fluid flush might cure the noise? I'm not looking forward to the mess and the labor in removing lines up under the car.

Or am I looking at a mandatory pump replacement? The car has under 80K miles on it.

I would definitely start with a fluid flush. It's really not that bad, Take the return line off the rack from above.

Be sure to refill it with the correct fluid. Spec's dextron III

I took off the return line at the bottom, and installed a Wix 33033 15 micron fuel filter.

Major difference in noise....
