2007 ION-2 Sedan
Default 2007 Saturn Ion2 Sedan 2.2L Throttle Body

I currently have a throttle body PN 12633774 on my 07 Saturn 2.2L VIN F.

Can throttle body 12580195 replace it? I see 8 pins on this TB and 6 pin on the one on my car.

Default Re: 2007 Saturn Ion2 Sedan 2.2L Throttle Body

Using rockauto for cross referencing parts, your stock throttle body appears to be a Bosch unit, https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...433443&jsn=339. The other throttle body seems to fit 2.4L engines. What the extra pinouts are for is anyone's guess without wiring diagrams of each throttle pinouts. Unless someone here can post pinouts for each throttle body, you're left to search for both wiring diagrams online, buy a Chilton or Haynes manual for each engine (your 2.2L and 2.4L) and see if they have wiring diagrams. Once pinouts are found, you may be able to determine if the 8-pin throttle body can work in your Vue. It's also presumed the same basic physical body fits on your 2.2L engine intake manifold. And lastly, if you get this far into rewiring, you won't know if a throttle relearn procedure will successfully allow your chosen throttle body to be recognized by the ecm in order for it to recalibrate this throttle for proper operation. A relearn procedure is a program in the ecm/pcm to learn about new/used parts (electric throttle, ecm/pcm, electronic pedal) to 'marry' a new part to the rest of the EFI system. Drive by wire systems requires precision alignment, electronically, so all three components can play together. Worse case scenario is a relearn results in failure to accept this throttle resulting in triggering the reduced power indicator. Reduced power is a default in ecm/pcm programming if throttle body or pedal fails with the ecm/pcm defaulting to about 15% of maximum power to prevent any chances of a runaway engine since the cable is eliminated between throttle and pedal. Electronics connects engine computer to throttle and pedal and electronics uses dual position sensors in throttle and pedal to ensure both against failure while driving. Defaulting to 15% power in limp home mode (reduced power) allows driving off to a safe place to make the emergency call instead of dying on the road.

You assume all risks when modifying the EFI system. It's wise to have wiring diagrams and a full understanding of EFI systems, especially drive by wire like yours and many vehicles with 100% electronics operating the throttle. What you don't know can result in either total failure or success. You become the beta tester at this point unless another member or more knowledgeable person can offer more expertise.

Post Re: 2007 Saturn Ion2 Sedan 2.2L Throttle Body

I totally agree with Fdryer. Mickymousing by swapping out to an alternative part comes with a very high risk of damaging the ECM/BCM if you're not fully informed in how these Saturn's work. With these cars its best to use what was meant to go in there. In your case it's the Bosch TB.

I personally purchased the Bosch unit back 2017 for some diagnostics trying to locate an issue that turned out to be a #4 ignition coil. I wound up having a spare TB. It still works seamlessly till today, (but so does the OEM original).

The Bosch unit cost $98.50 at Amazon if you're interested.

Thanks for the reply. I accept that it is better to keep the parts the same. I pulled the wrong TB 12580195 from the local wreckers on all you can carry $60 parts day. I wanted the headlight assemblies and a trunk actuator so the TB's was an afterthought. It was only when I got home I realized I pulled from the wrong car. I didn't have a lot of time to spend at the salvage yard so I took a chance and quickly pulled the parts. I don't need a 12633774 TB at the moment as mine was replaced 2 years ago, but I wanted a spare. If anyone lives in the Toronto, Ontario Canada area and needs a 12580195 TB. I pulled 2 and can be had for free.

Thanks again for taking the time responding. If I were more prepared I would have had a proper list of PN's.

Again if anyone lives near me (Toronto, Ontario Canada) you are welcome to have the two 12580195 throttle bodies. I pulled from a salvage yard and cleaned them up. I don't think they are worth spending the money shipping anywhere but if you live close by you can have them.

I picked up two TB # 12633774 from the local wreckers as spares. They look pretty new, and I cleaned up the carbon. Keeping for spares. Thanks for the help figuring out the correct PN.
