Question Trunk leak

I'm getting a lot of water leakage in my right side trunk area especially after a strong rain. Is this a known problem?

Check the black gasket when the trunk is open. Maybe a tear or you have a rusted out spot

Thumbs Up Re: Trunk leak

The rubber seal is brand spanking new. But I found a small rust spot that went through. Sure enough the culprit. I used to own a paint that turned rust into a black epoxy. Got it from Eastman I think. Shelf life was terrible, but once it hardened that stuff would need nitro glycerin to open it up, (that's what happened to the can it came in). Any suggestions short of body repair? It's too small for body work but it will only get bigger if I don't do something now.

Go to home depot and buy a product called OATEY FIX it STICK #31270. It is an all purpose bonding epoxy. Comes in an 8 inch cylinder. Outer core resin. Inner core hardener. Cut off a small piece, and kneed with fingers till uniform colour. Apply to a rust free dry surface. Will harden like steel. About $15 CAD. If you are american that will probably be like $8-9 usd.

Best to make sure you dry out the trunk as that is where the battery is any you don't want your spare and jack rusting in place. Good luck

Yeah I know, (Florida). Funny you mentioned the two part epoxy stick. That's the first thing that came to mind, but I have the Gorilla Glue version.

Update: The Oatey stick is not in Home Depot but at Lowes. $6.58 American...

I guess the Canadian dollar is like the peso these days. Anyways epoxy will work. There is also a plumbers version that can be applied when wet. Same price but smaller quantity by 60%.
