Wrench Possible 3.6L to 3.5L?

My mother's 2008 Saturn Vue Redline locked up as oil pump quit. Does anyone know if a 3.5L engine will work in place of the 3.6L? Thanks for any help...

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Only if you're willing to change the transmission and necessary computers & wiring with it. The 3.5L only came with the older four-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6L came with the newer six-speed auto.

Just get another 3.6. Pretty common in junk yards as they were used in all GM brands.

And the 3.5L has a 5 speed auto, not a four speed. The four speed would have been in the 2.2L I4's.

What you just said is only true for the 2005-2007 Vue and not applicable to the OP's inquiry.

The OP had a 2008 Vue which is substantially different from older models. The 2008 Vue XE came with a Chevy 3.5L and Hydramatic 4T45E transmission; not the Honda engine & trans the older models used.

Ah, fair enough. I didn't realize the 08+ had a 3.5L variant. Thanks for clarifying.
