Default Used Heater Core Okay?

Ive got the leaks under the dash fellas. Before i tear it apart i was wondering about used heater cores for my 1997 SL2. Should i bother gettin one from a junker or see the dealer man for a new one? Thanks

Gaaah, no. With all the work to get the core out, spend the extra bucks for a new one. You should be able to order one from NAPA or some other for-real parts place.

Agreed - this is one part you DON'T want to "R&R&I", given the labor involved.

I changed the one on my Olds Calais. It used a couple PVC pipes to connect the heater core and it looked like the glue went bad and the PVC pipes leaked. I still replaced the entire heater core. Too much work, and too important of an item to have fail on you.

The only benefit to a used one is you get to practice on a junk car first. Even if you get it out and then buy a new one the ten bucks might be worth it if you learn something that keeps a rattle away.
