Default No start. No spark

Hey. I have a 2002 saturn l200 2.2l. About two weeks ago i ran out of gas. After filling it up and still no start i figured the line had frozen since the temp was below 0 at the time. I towed it to my garage to warm up and still nothing. After doing some diagnostics. I have fuel. Pressure is at the rail. And cylinders smell of gas. I checked the time chain its taught and cam marks are right werw they are supposed to be. There is no spark though. I get a random spark at random plugs maybe 1 every 100 rotations. I changed the spark plugs, ignition coil, and ign. control module. Still nothing. No codes read on two different scanners. No other electronic issues so i dont think its the pcm. All the fuses look good. Im reading 700 ohm for the cps. Any ideas where to check next?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Default Re: No start. No spark

With a new ignition system, new spark plugs and a flooded engine, the engine may still be flooded. Even new plugs will drown in fuel, shorting out spark. Every year there's a member or two reporting failed starts in freezing weather. Most do not know how to determine if an engine becomes flooded and then follow procedures to correct for it.

With all things being the same with the engine starting as usual, we become dependent on EFI systems for reliable starting in all weather conditions. The hallmarks of EFI systems is near instant starting and some fall prey to the occasional failed startup after several attempts, most occurring in subfreezing temperatures. This occurs because freezing temperatures is detected by several temperature sensors, the coolant sensor in this case. Since the EFI system knows it's freezing outside, it determines an extra rich fuel mixture is needed on starting up a frozen engine. Unless the engine starts up immediately with this rich fuel mixture, subsequent starting attempts simply floods the engine with more fuel, drowning spark. A flooded engine. The owners and service manual provides a simple and easy procedure to deal with this situation. Clear flood mode.

After several starting attempts without the engine firing up, it's presumed the engine is flooded. Hold throttle wide open for the next two or three starting attempts, no more than 5-8 seconds for each start. The throttle position sensor tells the ECM/PCM of wide open throttle while detecting low engine rpm (starting). The pcm shuts off injector operation as clear flood mode is engaged. With zero injector operation, no more fuel is injected as more air dilutes the flooded cylinders until the engine sputters to fire up. Good engines will fire up in one or two starting attempts when pedal is held to the floor. The alternative method when at home is removing plugs and clearing out excess fuel by starting with fuel spraying out each cylinder. Your choice.
