Happy AURA XE- 34.2 MPG non hybrid

This morning I drove my daugther and family to the local airport for their return trip to Philadelphia.

Filled up the gas tank, reset driver info system and my round trip miles were 76.4. Average MPG on trip with 4 passengers, full tank of gas and luggage an astounding 34.2MPG.

Imagine what the hybrid will do?

From my experience GM V6s seem to achieve better than rated highway fuel economy, but 4 over. Must not have a lead foot.

That is nearly the same highway mileage I get with my Ecotec powered Malibu. I wish I had a V6.

Did you do your own calculations, or was this just the figure from the DIC?

Did my own and DIC. Both came within a tenth of a mile.

I am only averaging 20.6 in my XR. I can't get that number of. You must have to drive like a driver's training student to get the best efficiency. I averaged better MPG in my Monte Carlo and it had a bigger engine.

Try resetting the Average Fuel Economy feature in the DIC at every fill-up. That way you're not averaging the fuel economy over the life of the vehicle. With the colder weather, using features like the remote start, heated seats, and rear window defroster can have a negative impact on any car's fuel economy.

My father-in-law's 2004 Impala with the 3.4 has gotten as high as 35 on the highway.

A hybrid won't do much better on the highway. The less often the brakes are used, the less benefit a hybrid provides. Your mpg figure suggests you didn't do much braking and accelerating.

My site recently launched a fuel economy survey that's more sophisticated than most. Just a few entries for the Aura so far:

Saturn Aura fuel economy

There are 29 Auras in the panel, so more entries can be expected. Can always use more. Initial reliability results for the Aura likely around the end of May.

The best I've seen on my XR was 29 MPG. That was on a trip up to Riverside. Now that I have 3,000 miles on it, I'm starting to average 22 to 23 in regular driving.
