2005 VUE 3.5L
1995 SL2
Default Rear Bumper Cover

Considering buying a rear bumper cover, because I read in a poll that it was a good accessory to purchase. My question: Is it hard to install? And how is it installed?

Default Re: Rear Bumper Cover

very simple--you get some rubbing alcohol and clean the area where the 2 sided tape is and carefully take tape strip off and attach. seemed a little cheesey, but really holds well. you just have to get it lined up 1st and once you attach it there is no moving it. Think I payed about
25$ for it.found the web site here for the cheapest $$ .
sorry cant rember it right now,you could do a search for a thread i started about 3 weeks ago.

I have to echo that opinion, it was extremely simple to install. I let my girlfriend tell me if I was centered and such before I stuck it down. She has better eyes for that kinda stuff than I do. I payed about the same, 25-30 bucks. I dont remember exactly. It was definately well worth the investment. The bumper (without the pad) scratches so easily from loading stuff into the Vue. The bumper guard keeps it looking new. When clean, it also adds a nice contrast in color to the bumper since it is shiny black. I think it should have been standard. It also makes it less slipery to stand on the bumper when puting items up top. Only negative I can find with it is it holds the dirt (and probably snow - have not had it on for a winter yet) much more than the stock bumper. You can probably see some shots of it in some of my photos (clean and dirty).

I got mine from saturnaccessories.com . Paid about the same price. Easy to install. Mine was off about an eighth of an inch but it is not that noticable. It definitely helps hide the scuffs on top of the bumper. The only thing I don't like about it was that my bumpers had faded and the cover was black. They didn't match initially but are now starting to blend in as the same color.

I also got mine at www.saturnaccessories.com for about $30 shipped.

On another note I recommend the splash guards. They run about $65 and really add to the appearance of your VUE.

I got one from saturnaccessories.com too. I think it makes the bumper look more finished. Don't have to worry about scratches loading/unloading. It does hold snow more than no cover, but you just brush it off. Easy install- use rubbing alcohol to clean the bumper, check alignment, remove the tape and stick it down.

Mine came with those...they are great for wet roads, dry roads, dirt roads, and very light offroad (no rocks - just mud). However, if you plan to take it over any curbs, rocks, or heavier off road you will probably crack or lose a mudflap. I cracked one and loosened one. I was able to tighten the one back up though. And in snow, I find they collect too much of the snow in the wheel wells and cause the vue to vibrate a little. I also find that backing up in deep snow can result in a bent mudflap (I saw another car (RAV-4) do that once.

The only trouble I have with mine and i believe I've heard the same from others is that The lower edge of the lift gate especially in the corners can rub and begin to rust. I paint mine every so often because I cant find a cure with out removing some of the plastic. Otherwise I love the cover and would definately recomend it.

I checked...and sure enough, no rubbing. I did notice it was close, but no rubbing. When I closed it the first time I did get a cloud of dust in my face. Then I opened and closed it slowly...and no rubbing. So I cleaned the bottom of the hatch and had no scratches whatsoever. Mine has also only been installed for about 2 or 3 months. I dont know when you installed yours, but maybe they changed the design slightly. I will keep checking it though to make sure.

Oh, on second thought, I do have a new bumper from when I was rear ended at a stoplight. Maybe they installed the new one improperly...just enough to make it slightly lower. Oh well.

Got mine from Saturn dealer. I have a large dog that rides in the back and if no cover, the bumper would have been destroyed.

"Not so fast my friend". I priced the grill gaurd, side step rails, and mud gaurds at both sites. autowebaccessories was cheaper than saturnaccessories on the list price, but when I added shipping at both sites, autowebaccessories was $5 to $10 more expensive than saturnaccessories. Another good place to get accessories from is eBay seller "saturn_of_tallahassee". I picked up a couple of bug shields for our VUE's for $62 each....shipped.

I just placed an order with saturnaccessories.com, and here's what I ordered:

1) All weather floor mats, front & rear
2) "Saturn" windshield sunshade
Total of order including shipping: $94.85

The exact same order at autowebaccessories.com was going to be $96.58 including shipping. I only saved $1.73, but that's a couple of cokes at work. I have found this to be the case with every item I've checked on....saturnaccessories.com is always cheaper. Maybe you live closer to the autowebaccessories warehouse than I do, thus you get a better deal with them. I must live closer to Georgia than you do, thus I do better with saturnaccessories.com. Then again, who really cares?

My recommendations are the bumper guard, mud flaps and hood deflector. All protect the truck very well. Got them all from Saturnaccessories.com and I'm extremely pleased with their support and service.
