Default Northern NJ: 2000 Silver Saturn LS 5 Speed Mechanics Special: $1500 Photos Attached

Mechanics Special:

Starts effortlessly and runs smoothly, but tests positive for exhaust in the cooling system, possibly from a bad head gasket. Notwithstanding this, the car drives fine...for now.

158,000 Highway miles

New plugs, Oil change, filter, low beam headlights, and wiper blades

Recent front brakes/rotors, rear tires

Tilt wheel, AM/FM CD Player

Very Clean and presentable interior and exterior

Signals, lights, horn, radio and heat all function properly

Current NJ inspection through May 2005

Any question, I'll try to check back to this board, but your best bet is to email me directly.

If it's got a 5 speed, it has to be the 2.2L ecotec. The V6 could only be had (much to my dismay now that we have one in the driveway) with an automatic transmission.

didn't they come with some other engine before the ecotec was produced? I seem to remember reading that on edmunds somewhere.

No just 2.2 L ecotec 4 or the V6. That's all that ever came in the L.

Wasn't the 2000 L the first US application of the Ecotec? Or did the Cavalier beat it? I'm positive that engine had been in use before the L, either here or in foreign GM brands.

Sorry...I just turned on the email function. I didn't know it wasn't checked. The car has the 2.2L Ecotec. No clue as to the date of manufacture. VIN number is: 1G8JR52F4YY605977 if that is helpful.

Thanx

if you look on the driver's door sticker it should tell you there when it was manufactured; or on the underside of the cardboard covering the spare tire in the trunk.

the cavalier didn't start using the eco until mid year 2002, when they discontinued the Z24 and started the LS sport.

Default Lowered price to $999

If someone is local and wants this thing, let me know this week, otherwise I guess I'm back to either sending it out to get fixed, or tearing into it myself.

Thanx

I thought 2001 was the year they started with the Cavalier ecotec...hmm..will have to look again, anyway, I know it was after the L Series. I have loved Cavaliers forever, until I test drove it's cousin in the GT (Twin Cam trim)...it was really dissapointing...I chose my 99 SC1a over a 97 Sunfire GT auto because the GT felt gutless and had a lot more miles and was more expensive and had rust starting on it (I hate rust...I love saturns because if they rust you don't see it (underbody or under the carpet or someplace you don't know)...something was wrong with that thing though because it wouldn't go when I punched it on the highway...wish they would've kept to V6's in 95 and later instead of only 4 cylinder applications...150hp isn't enough for that car.

Question...is the L Series the same platform as the Catera or just the same V6 engine?

man, for that price i'd be over there in a heartbeat. I'm just having trouble with "accumulating" too many S-series and not being able to sell them quick enough.

i think the biggest problem here is there's no way to tell if the block is cracked or not without ripping into it.

The balance of the car is in good shape. Anyone who is serious, email me privately for a phone number and I'm happy to chat. I sincerely doubt if it is the block. Compression tests at 180/160/160/180. Radiator holds pressure for a long time at 20Lbs, and there is no intermixing of fluids, blowing smoke, or overheating, although, I agree that it is impossible to tell if it is a head gasket, or a cracked head.

if you still have it sitting around in three months, I'll jump on it! I just have too many cars sitting around now waiting to be sold.
