Default Smell

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion 3. I bought it for my college age daughter so I am reporting what she says about a terrible, nauseating chemical smell (and musty) It is worse with heat, but still can smell it with AC. She did have wheel bearings replaced a few weeks ago. But, she did mention that last fall she had something dripping (when using the AC) on the passenger side. It was more middle to right side of the area where your feet would be. I am going to try and see if there is a blockage somewhere. How crazy is this going to be? Should I not bother and take it to a mechanic? Any ideas guys?

Check/replace the cabin filter.

If the cabin filter isn't the issue, you may have mold built up on your A/C evaporator.

Another possibility is that the evaporator drain is clogged, resulting in water pooling up in the housing.
