2006 ION-3 Sedan
Default Ion Window Won't Go Up

I have a 2006 Ion-3. Window went down, but wouldn't go up. Reviewed as many threads in here as I can.

I replaced the switch (with a junk yard switch, so still a possibility), replaced the motor, and the same issue. Motor only spins to go down, not up. That switch is really hard to trouble shoot. I've examined the harness through the door boot and, save for a little chafing near the connector to the window motor, I can't find any opens in the harness. I'm pretty confident it has to be an issue inside the door. Three big wires (brownish, grey, light blue) go to the switch. Two big wires go from the switch to the motor (grey, dark blue). I cannot trace continuity from the switch to the motor plug for some reason. Maybe some voodoo electrical behind the door panel?

Otherwise, is there a comprehensive way to test the switch itself?

Anyway, super irritating. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I hope that this old thread can somehow help you with your concern since it is related.

If the passenger side window won't roll up or down, try it with the master switch located on the driver side or the center console. If it works, then the passenger side switch is bad. Swap switches if possible. In some cars, the window switches are all identical.

Thanks. I did fail to mention that master switch didn't work either. Same result - down only no up.

Put in new motor, no difference.

Must be the harness??

I have two 2007 Saturn Ions. Each has a back window that won't move. Luckily stuck in closed position. One day I will replace the entire door with one from the wreckers.

I had a similar situation in a Oldsmobile several years ago.
I ran a wire from the fuse box to the switch as a test. The window worked.
Turned out the "auto down module" located under the dash had failed.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. The problem may not be in the rear doors at all. I'd start by checking for power/ground at the rear switches since those are relatively easy to remove. If you get power and ground there, the motor is probably bad

The grounds for the rear windows run through the master switch in the driver's door. The power feed for the rear window switches comes from the BCM. Check for broken wires in the rubber boot in each door jamb. The most likely place is the driver's door jamb since that's the door that gets opened and closed most frequently.

I've linked the wiring diagram here to help you troubleshoot.
