Default LOL at my friends

I have a 1997 Saturn SL2 5speed manual 1.9 DOHC stock obviously and everyone laughs at me. But when i race them down the highway from a dead stop they cant keep up! some of the cars they have one is a 1998 honda civic dx hatch mods include a k&m filter and a Greedy exhaust with stainless steel headers. >.< the other is a 1998 acura integra with a cold air intake and Greedy exhaust. both 5 speed just like me but somehow i always beat them even when we change drivers my car smokes them now i have one of a few saturns of this year and style running around here i want mine to be something special so i was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas of how to make this car even faster as it is im sittin at 124 hp at 5600 rpms what can i do to increase this? Should i go turbo? Like a T3 or T4 turbo or should i supercharge it to save costs of having to get an intercooler. Also i would like to make it sound throatier. So an exhaust like a Catback or something like that would be nice any ideas please let me know. Also whenever i turn my AC on it drains the power on my engine dramatically is there something wrong?

same thing here. mine is a 99 sl2 dohc 1.9 with the only performance mod being a short ram intake, and i easily beat my friend's 05 pontiac g6, but that thing is close to 4 thousand pounds. So maybe its a weight issue? I don't know the weight of those other 2 cars, but i know sl2's are really light.

Decide if you want N/A or F/I.

If you go F/I don't waste money on parts that don't work for F/I.

N/A:

Intake/header/exhaust, nitrous. Flat faced pistons flat valves, shave the head down, overbore the block, cams, tuning.

The DX weighs around 2300 pounds but only has 106hp 1.6L engine.
The Integra weighs like 2600 pounds and has a 1.8L ranging from 140 - 195hp, depending on model.

I'm assuming nither has the highest HP engines. Not much match for a Sx2 anway... lol

I'd get a '92 header, MP2 transmission, maybe 8lb flywheel, and a CAI.
No one will agree with me on the MP2 part though, so w/e. I'd have the MP2 again if it wasn't a ton of work I really don't feel like doing. I hate the MP3 tranny.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

If you are going to stay N/A a MP2 is a waste. The gears are longer, taking longer to wind out. Now I'd keep my MP3s and take the 5th gear from the MP2 and put it in for better economy while cruising.

the only thing wrong with the mp3 is 5th gear, and since the mp2 and mp3 tranny's are the same except for gearing a simple 5th gear swap is easy and possible.

the cheapest way to go fast in these cars is a WET shot of nitrous, a dry shot is just the fast way to a blown motor.

You can do a dry shot but you better know how to do it and tune correctly.

A 75 shot I hear is the limit for a stock motor. Otherwise you have to go forged.

But 124hp + 75 = 199hp. You could take down lots of cars with that.

I agree with the 75 wet shot being the biggest on this motor.

and its not like you can tune for a dry shot on these cars, you'd need a mega squirt at least, and dry shot kit + megasquirt = you should have gone direct port, it cost the same.

the first mod you have to do if you turbo a saturn is buy 2nd car. a turbo saturn, especially if you have to ask about it, is going to spend more time up on jack stands because somethings broken, then it will spend driving.

so basically if i want more horsepower out of this car i might as well start swimming to japan with chopsticks cause that would be easier right? All i want is more horsepower running around town. What about an eletric turbo ive seen them on ebay do those work?

There is only 1 electric turbo that works and its gonna run a couple hundred dollars. Screw jap cars. Only a few good ones I like.

The only way to tune this cars is with a Stand-Alone system, (Megasquirt) or a Piggy back system (SAFC). When I go to tune I am using Megasquirt fuel/spark control.

If you cut the cat and muffler off your car right now you will get a 9hp increase and its dyno proven.

Here at the dyno tests.

F/I is forced induction. Turbo or supercharger.
You can turbo these cars, people just either cheap out or don't tune correctly.

180whp? Thats roughly 207bhp. I can't see a stock Saturn beating a 207bhp Acura.

Nope.. if you want cheap speed, gotta buy an SRT-4 or something.

I like my SL2 and all but I almost never want to race anyone. It's not a fast car.
