Default Engine Swaps?

Hey, first post, and I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right section.

I have a 2002 Saturn SL1 (5 speed manual). I thought it would be cool to make it into a sleeper rather than sell it to get a new car, and I was wondering if there are any engine swaps available for the SL1. I'm looking for something practical, and worth swapping, I don't want to spend cash to gain only 50 HP.
I know saturn makes a DOHC 6-cylinder motor, but I'm not too sure that would be compatable, or if it would even fit.
Also would the turboed Saturn sky engine fit, or would it be too much effort/money for not enough power gain?

I'm not too familiar with any saturn tech, (or general tech knowledge at that) so any help/ideas would be appreciated.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Your only option is the S-Series 1.9L DOHC I-4 engine. Nothing else will swap in without extensive custom work, none of which can be spelled out for you (aka: if you have to ask if you can do it, you can't). Good news is it's a straightforward swap, you don't even have to swap wiring, just the engine and PCM, and if you have an automatic, the trans. Bad news is it's only a 24hp gain. Good news is that is a significant gain in a 2400lb car.

do you think that is enough of a gain to even spend the money on, or will it make it THAT much faster that it will be worth it? I have a manual transmission, but would probably replace it, or get it rebuilt, since i have over 100k on the car.

are there even enough mods to make the car a legitimate sleeper for a reasonable price (aka, no over the top custom work)?

DOHC swap + nitrous = 200 wheel hp on the cheap
Because nitrous is dangerous for people new to it, I suggest getting the nitrous first and practicing on your current engine. It won't make much power, but once you learn how to use nitrous you can upgrade to a DOHC and make some real power.

^^^ that's your best bet. There is no way you are going to get a sky RL engine cheap. So, if you have the money to buy one along with accessories; then you have enough to buy another car and that would be your best bet.

LLO + Nitrous
LLO + Forced Induction

Those are your two options to make power with the 1.9LLO.

Nitrous is cheap.
Forced Induction with a proper build can you 460whp along with some nitrous, case in point S Bretz SL car.

In a 2400lbs car the power to weight ratio is 460 x .15 = 69 460 + 69 = 529bhp 529 / 2400 = .22

Mustang GT 01 = .07
Mustang GT 01 (750bhp) = .22

No kidding

How many 450+ whp s series are out there again? Even if the s series has the weight advanatge, a GT with that kind of power is going to have a major advantage with torque and RWD. Good luck trying to consistent with a 450+ WHP FWD
