Was there a layer of foam under the dash when you took it off? That looks like a piece of the foam insulation thatís supposed to be under there. Previous owner may have destroyed that as well and thatís all thatís left.

Yep, the foam is fine. I think I'm going to hand wash it in a bucket of soapy water. One of the prior owners was a smoker and I'm slowly getting the smell out.

I think 96-99 should work. 95 was an odd transition year. They had an endcap on top.

After washing, soak the foam in a bucket of water with 1 or 2 cups of baking soda overnight. Rinse, squeeze out the water and let dry before reinstalling the silly thing. I did this a couple years ago.

Next time I take out the dash cover I will replace the foam thingie, just cause I can.

I think I will replace the foam. I have some handy.
Rather than go to LKQ I fixed my dash mount tabs. First I marked them.

Then I dremeled and sanded them off.

Riveted on:

A wrap of good duct tape around the tab and then the clip jams on:

Rivets

And the second one.

New foam marked up. I bought a sheet of this foam to make a new air filter for my 1981 Suzuki GN400.

Glued together and put in place:

Crap. Broke another tab. Fixed.

Rivets are visible but the repair is strong.

I got my headliner fabric finally.

These busted tabs are getting to be a thing.

I busted my center brake light. I need an LKQ run.

Overall it came out pretty good.

Nice work on the headliner!

Mine had a few minor wrinkles but they are covered by the passenger sunshade, so normally out of sight Plus a few areas where my sunroof is could use a little work. Part of why I have a love/hate relationship with the sunroof.

your LKQ comment reminds me, I need to make a run. I always forget that I was going to grab a flasher unit for the brake light (the kind that makes it flash 3x quickly before coming on). Figure it's cheap insurance against being rear ended.

Oh yeah, totally forgot - doing the headliner got rid of the last of that stubborn cigarette smell. I had already Febreezed everything but still had that noticeable whiff of smoke.

I never did clean the sunshades, rear tray, or seat belts other than Febreeze, wiping down, etc., but the replacing the headliner and cleaning the carpet was enough to get the smell out.

There was a decent amount of cigarettes stashed between the driver seat and center console. I had cleaned everything under the seat already, when when I removed the driver seat, these fell out

Over 20 cigarettes and butts

That is awesomely nasty.

Went to LKQ yesterday to get a new 3rd brake light thing. I didn't realize the sedans have a different part. Since I struck out I'm fixing my broken one. I made a piece of sheetmetal to glue on.

The 5 minute epoxy is drying now.
