Default Front end noise

Car Info: 1994 SL-2
Eng: 1.9L DOHC
Transmission: Automatic: MP7

Discription of symptoms:
I feel and hear a dull knocking noise eminating from the left front area of the car.
This noise stops if I lightly apply breaks or accelerate speed.

The noise is only evident when the car is crusing and there is no load.
As if I'm on a straight & level surface at 45 MPH and I take my foot off of the accelerator the noise is pronounced. At this time if I apply either power (accelerate) or break the noise will fade away.

Is this a CV joint?

I do not think it is wheel bearing related because there is no noise (of any type) when under power or when slowing (de-celerating) to a stop.

Is there a thread on how to replace a left (driver's side) drive axle?

Thank you,
Herm

Have you done this test yet? Roll down both windows one at a time, and by moving your head closer to one open window or the other see if you can locate the sound. A bad CV joint normally makes more noise when you are making a low speed turn. Try a big parking lot and turn a couple of left hand and right hand circles.

Are the lug nuts tight on the wheel?

Upon further inspection I found three (3) lub nuts in the captive recess' of the hub-cap. There was only one lug-nut actually retaining the tire/wheel assembly.

Installed all four (4) lug nuts and torqued to 87 Ft lbs.

I've already placed an order to purchase a full set (16) of new lug nuts.

OldNuc.....Thank you for your insight and assistence

You sometimes learn from experience. I had a wheel come off because the nuts backed off. I remember the sound. It was a long time ago and I would rather not hear it again. The torque value for those nuts is 100 ftLb. That might be why they came loose.
