Saw the L series DVD system today
I was in Saturn of Frederick (MD) this morning getting a repair to the SC. They had a very nice, 2002 LW300 with the DVD package. The car was black, with grey leather, fully loaded. The DVD package comes with some great looking 16" chrome rims. Very slick. 215/55 size tires. Price was $26,000 or so. The badging on the back "LW300" on the left and "V6" on the right was really nice looking.
As for the DVD player, it's a flip-down ceiling mounted unit. The screen is approximately 6" wide, and I think it's the 16:9 widescreen format. The DVD player itself is between the front seats. It's in such a spot as to almost double as the center armrest. It's sorta weird, the feed faces the front of the car, I guess so the parents riding up front operate it. There's only 3 buttons (play/pause, skip, and stop/eject I think), it's a pretty simple system.
The integration of the DVD player itself isn't that great, it sorta looks like an afterthought. That said, the enclosure does match the rest of the interior, so I think they pulled it off pretty well. I think it'd be better if it was mounted in the dash or even the glovebox, but that's only a minor detail.
Congrats to Saturn for being the first out there with this cool feature in a vehicle of this type.
