1-Try googling Astra forums, overseas. One site, http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/.../t-142561.html, seems to answer your question - fan turn on temperature around 108C/226F. That's close to Ions with two cooling fans, low speed cooling when temps reach 106C/223F, high speed cooling when temps reach 110C/230F.

2-Does your Astra have a digital temperature display? If not, a reader can display operating temps before cooling fan turn on temp in everyday driving.

All vehicle cooling systems operate by pressurizing it. In combination with a mixture of antifreeze and water, coolant under pressure won't boil until reaching approximately 129C/265F. Plain water boils at 100C/212F but in a pressurized cooling system, boiling point is raised much higher. For every pound of pressure increase, the boiling point goes up 3F. Typical radiator cap pressure is 12 to 16 psi. This raises the boiling point of the engine coolant to about 250F to 260F. Cooling fans are always turned on well below maximum boiling points.

3-One way to determine if the cooling fan failed or not; if your ac still works, turning it on should power up the cooling fan - its needed to force air thru two radiators (low to moderate car speed) the ac condenser coil and radiator. Both become warm to hot in summer weather so fan cooling is turned on whenever ac is used.

Thanks fdryer, I do have the digital dash one which reads 73 degrees, and when, I turn the key on( not running ) the operating temp is 90 degrees.
So I guess I, will have to wait ... it should come on @ 106 to 110 degrees

Thanks again
