Default Help ? on water pump and coolant

I am going to change out my water pump tonight, and I also looked in the how to library and found some step by step instructions. But I had a question on the antifreeze it says that I have to use dexcool antifreeze. But I have some regular stuff thats not dexcool here at work. If I use it will it do anything wrong to the car or should I use the recomended dexcool fluid.

It is my contention that the new "regular" antifreeze is up to the same standards as orange dexcool of years past. Therefore, I think it will be fine. Standard antifreeze is now compatible with all types and even now has reccommended 5 year change intervals (or 150K mile) so I would go ahead and use it. I just filled mine with the standard green, and I am not going to worry about it. Other input welcome.

most likely if it says "5 year" anywhere on the regular antifreeze bottle it's OAT technology and dexcool compatible. The red color and dexcool name are licensed by GM... but the chemistry is more universal and will work fine.

unless your car is under an extended waranty you should be fine it is noted that you should do a extisive flushing of the coolant system befor going to the green, I've seen problems because of corrosion due to incompatable mixes

green silicated is practically obsolete and hard to find.

Green 5-year OAT is universally available and the kind one gets by accident when they're not specific what they want.

If anyone were to be concerned about mixing types, it should be someone with a 91 to early 96 with green silicated, accidentally getting green OAT. And even then the "mixing types" hype is debatable.

The OP, with dexcool forever, is in good shape, unless he/she scrounges for green silicated.
