The local laws limit the front door windows to no less than 35% so I was thinking of playing it save at 50% front doors and then darker on the rear door and back windows but I don't want the transition to be noticeable. I was wondering if 2 shades darker would be noticeable. 50%:35% (1 shade) vs 50%:25% (2 shades).

I did the 650k mile oil change, topped off fluids, checked tires, and treated the old girl to a nice fresh pair of windshield wipers.

Acquired my very first one, 2001 SW2, >140k miles. Also my first manual transmission car, so it's a huge opportunity for me to learn more about working on cars and driving them.
Ordering a refrigerant kit with UV dye so I can find the AC leak, and since there is a coolant leak from around the top of the coolant surge tank, a new 18 psi pressure cap will be my first cheap attempt at fixing before moving on to the tank itself. Essentially going to restore it before I start modding it. |

So a while back I got one of those armrest boxes. Back when I started looking for one I learned that they originally came with a coin holder. The one I got didn't have the coin holder but it wasn't really that big of a deal to me at the time. Since then though I've just been keeping my change in one of the cup holders under climate control but I'm already losing 2 cup holders to the armrest and I don't really want to lose a 3rd. So this past week or so I've been working on making my own coin holder to put where there is supposed to be one since finding that piece on its own is probably impossible unless I get lucky at a junkyard or something. Basically I just took some measurements, made a 3D model, brought it to school where we have a 3D printer, and now I have a coin holder. It actually took 2 tries as the first one that got printed was slightly too long and wouldn't fit but the second go was much better. I made the hooks a little too long so it sags down when in place, (easy fix if I felt like printing a 3rd one) but a piece of double sided tape works good enough. This was a pretty cool project to work on

I got my SL2 HCE stuck in the mud.
Didn't look deep but it sure was. Tow truck also got stuck. This is why I have AAA. Gave the Saturn a bath after this incident.

More of a "What did you do to your S-Series this weekend" kind of post (my weekend is Sun night - Wed morning atm), but here goes.
So, I'm not a fan of the cheap plastic hub caps, but at the same time I can't afford a nice set of alloys yet. Poking around I noticed some people used the center caps from the factory alloys on their steelies. Taking inspiration, I cut my hub caps down to be similar to the alloy center caps. I then stripped down the steelies of rust as best I could and painted them and the caps. Just a little bit ago, I went ahead and put the wheels back on, but am waiting another day or two to make sure the paint is fully cured before torquing down the lugs. I want it on the record that I DID attempt to mask the tires, but the wind and I had a disagreement: EDIT: pictures inserted from Imgur came out h00ge, bigger than I expected, so going to do something else... |

Those look nice - reminds me a bit of the wheels you sometimes see on cop cars.
Oil change after a piston soak this weekend. Got two 5 quart jugs of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic from Meijer's (after a tip from the oil rebate sticky thread) for $40, expecting a rebate of $10 per jug - final price, $2 / qt ![]()

Changed oil today. Only had about 1600 miles on the oil, but thats all I have driven in the past year. Last 200 miles had about half a quart of Kreen in the oil. Went back to m1-ep, didn’t particularly like T6, oil consumption was a lot higher than with M1, although I don’t know if brand of oil matters when it comes to constipation. Also cleaned my aem filter with some woolite.
Next up i need to lube window tracks. I have crank windows, and when it is cold out, there is one particular spot it is always more difficult to turn. Afraid one day I will break something. Bought and picked up some ratcheting wrenches today too. ![]() Thinking next year this time I will send an oil analysis off to blackstone...been a while, and don’t plan on adding any additives to the oil.

well here's my expensive story. just took in my car for new tires & I was hearing noise like a bad front wheel bearing. well I was right I need a new right front bearing, then the tires, alignment, & then I was told I had a slight brake fluid leak in the line that runs from front to back. with more looking into as it turns out my rear wheel cylinders are starting to seep under the seals also so add new wheel cylinders to the list. a whooping $1600.00 in repairs! that's what was done to my s-series today!
oh well the car is immaculate so why not? after all, nothing is too good for our babies! |

Grabbed a beer and a chair and watched my 15 year old son replace the front brake pads. First time doing a brake job on his own with no help from or me instructing him.
