Dizzy How do change a license plate light 04 Vue

It looks as though you take out the two plastic phillips screws and the socket should come right out. I tried and they just turn and don't come out. What else can I try? Thanks

Hi Sparky, welcome!! I turned those phillips heads so many times trying to get them out that they should be dizzy for a while...

SURPRISE!!!! They're not screws...just use a needle nose plier and carefully grab them and pull them out. After you change the bulb...just push them back in.

Simple as that....

Thanks a lot johnsl2!!! I believe there was a magician that said "It's easy once YOU know the secret". Thanks for sharing the info. Who would ever "thunk" it. A phillips head fastener that pulls not screwed out.

Thumbs Up Re: How do change a license plate light 04 Vue

I know this is an old thread, but it helped me today. I too was trying to unscrew the screws with no luck.

First time to have to change that bulb in 9 years! Not bad.

I only had one bulb out, but decided I should go ahead and change both while I was at it.

Thank you!

I replaced those plastic screws with small stainless steel screws that you can screw out easily. I also put in LED bulbs which really shine bright at night. This picture was before I found the stainless screws.

Termite, that looks great, what model LED bulb are they? Did you get them at a local part store or online?

I got these though Amazon.com These are a different part number and seem to cost less than when I ordered them. http://www.amazon.com/Jtech-T10-5-SM...rds=led+lights

Termite, if these LED's are so great, & being out for years, I wonder why the auto part stores aren't offering these at the retail level?

As it finally went above the freezing mark on the angry white planet today I decided to try this one ... after 5 minutes I gave up. . these ****ing engineers making something so simple so difficult are always trying to reinvent the wheel, huh?

Nice touch in design angling the the screws toward the body/plate too, need a stubby torx to accomplish this without removing the plate... *******s.

These old threads are such a godsend. Like a hive mind users manual.

They are screws, but they are those weird plastic body screws, and they strip in 2 turns. Either the phillips head strips or the threads strip. Either way, they're useless as "screws".

These push pin pliers are a must have for the HVAC cabin air filters, and now this.
