2001 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default Replacing alloy wheels leaking like a sieve. Alternate compatible size?

I need to buy wheels for my 2001 L200 as 3 of factory alloy wheels are leaking around the bead pretty bad. Suspect the people I bought it from got wheels from salvage yard where they sat in the dirt and corroded. I need to buy wheels so I plan on buying tires as well and give my present ones to my daughter. Stock wheels $$ are out of sight. Very small selection at Tire rack that is stock width and height.

Can I get away with a 15"X7" 40mm offset with out screwing up the steering and suspension geometry to bad? Some nice wheels on sale cheap but minimum size is 7" width. I take long trips with it and don't want it to wander or "hunt" at highway speeds. possible to go with a 16" wheel? What would the drawbacks be. I'm so confused reading on the internet and tire rack wont comment on custom wheel fitments.

Not looking for performance use. I have my Miata for that

Thanks in advance

My suggestion would be to stick with a L-Series GM wheel.

I don't think Saturn ever offered a 7" wide wheel for the L-Series. Might be some issues with that wide of a wheel. The attached picture shows a 16" X 6.5" wheel. Most L-Series Alloy wheels are 15" X 6" wide.

The 16" tires are a little pricey so a 15" would be the most cost effective.

A trip to a pull your own part JY would be your best bet for the wheels.

There have been posts in the L-Series forums stating that the 16" L-Series factory rims for '03 through '05 will fit on the L-Series cars from '00 through '02 without causing any issues within the wheel housing.

^^ Agreed, The 16" X 6.5" pictured above or this one 16" X 6" will fit the early L's. Not so sure about a 7" wide aftermarket wheel however.

That extra 1/2" in width may causes some issues.

Hopefully, some other forum members will have some additional information on if a 7" wide wheel will work with no issues.

I have a set of 16x 6.5 from a 2006 Saab 9-3 on my 2002 L200. Saab has much better looking wheels in my opinion. The 900, 9-3 and 9-5 from 95 through 08 should fit just find a set. I paid $160 for the set with new Pirreli p7 tires from a guy that parts out Saabs.

These are 2006 Saab 9-3 wheels, they are the same 5x110 bolt pattern. Get the lug bolts as they have a different taper and no hubcap threads.

I put 16 inch Saab wheels on the wife's 02 L200 and never had an issue.

I have the 16" wheels off my '99 Saab 9-5 (departed) on my '00 LS1. These fit perfectly. The steering knuckles, wheel hubs, brake discs and calipers are identical between the two models. The rear suspension is also identical. Any Saab 9-3 or 9-5 wheel should fit well.

Late here but my 03 L300 second hand had wider rims on it but just slightly wider width but still within the parameters of the Oversize specs that one can put on the Saturn. They were still 16 but my folks are still Factory rims. Just remember doing so will raise the tire prices as well. Mine are 205/65/R16 is what they changed it to but the rim will still fit the factory tire if you changed it back. I think factory was a little smaller I know I had a link to a site where you can find out what the Factory size was and what a Plus size would increase it to be but be within specs. I'll have to find that link again if possible and post it so you can use it to see how the dimension fit and see how it changes. That is how I used it to check my tire specs and see the dimensions.
