2008 Astra XR
Default Replacement oil pan heater plug

My car didnít come with a clock heater cord (read oil pan heater cable). I Decided $20 Canadian was better than whatever the stock cord costs. I cut the cord as close to he stock plug, put on a maleextension cord end I had licking around in the garage. Opened the existing home for the new Noco end to fit through, and fastened it with three 10-24 stainless screws and nuts.

Notes: Iím not responsible if you blow up or electrocute yourselves.
1: the stock cable is armoured and kinda tough to cut.
2: the wires are coloured like a regular extension cable (white, green and black)
3: placement of the holes is important, I had a real hard time getting nuts on two of three screws.

This is the final result.

That looks professional with a weatherproof cover. I read the comments suggesting dielectric grease for corrosion protection.

Is that for a stock engine block heater or did you put in a third party heater? is it some heating element on the oil pan?

Sorry not from Canada, eh, but wondering how you guys keep your engines warm enough to start in the deep winter cold.

The only time I ever had issues starting the car in cold weather is when I lived in PEI for a semester of college. Temperatures down to -36C. It took the car a little longer to turn over and you had to let it sit before driving if you forgot to plug it in at night

Manitoba here. Electricity is free at work, so I plan to plug in every day at work. Home in the garage is a different story. I only had one or two hard starts last year? More thinking of the long term effects of extreme cold starts.
