2005 ION Red Line
Default Redline steering problems, fixed

Okay so I have a 2005 Ion Redline that I had problems with the steering locking up, I changed out the electric motor with a used one thinking that was the problem, turns out that motor was bad and was give me an indicator on my Dash locking up worse. So I put the old one back in I was still having problems when I turned right and was breaking the steering would momentarily locked up, I had a knocking noise when I wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, so one day I had a friend wiggle it so I can see what the problem was. Turns out the rack had play where the tie rod went into the end of it, so I replace the steering rack with a rebuilt one and problem solved. Just a little FYI.

2004 ION-2 Sedan
Default Re: Redline steering problems, fixed

Good thing you checked so the tie rod didn't pop off. My wife was parking her Oldsmobile Intrigue and the tie rod just came right out. She said she was stuck and when I got there both tires were aiming at each other. It was pretty weird but at least it happened when she was barely moving the car.
