Default Throttle Body Gasket?

Ordered a throttle body gasket through Amazon for my 2002 SL2 DOHC, guaranteed to fit my exact car by amazon. FEL-PRO 61156 anticipating a metal gasket that would fit under the throttle body. Instead what I have received is a very thick (compared to gasket I was expecting) dark, brick-colored rubber part that most certainly would not hold air in or create a full seal. Unless this is some futuristic gasket I've never heard of, this is the wrong part, right? Or does this fit between the throttle body and the actual mounting gasket (FEL-PRO 61177). I have yet to take the throttle body off because I was worried the gasket would be destroyed (I think a leak is the problem to begin with, or part of it), hence why I ordered a throttle body gasket.

Any expert opinions would be appreciated. Maybe this is just a second part I didn't realize existed.

Thanks

FEL-PRO 61177 is for the "Saturn" Saturn DOHC's
FEL-PRO 61156 is for the "GM" Saturns.

"Saturn" Saturns: '91-'99 (though, the '00-'02 SOHC's use the same 61177 gasket)
"GM" Saturns: '00-'02 (this particular gasket is only for the '00-'02 DOHC's with the stupid plastic intake)

There's a channel in the TB for the o-ring style gasket to fit into and while I've taken the TB off many times it's a Saturn law that any gasket you have on hand won't break upon removal but if it takes a week to get a new one will break into 100's of piece's. If you have a rare case and the "law" doesn't hold up...you already have it on hand and it doesn't matter

Probably $30 at Autozone and about $5 on Amazon, if the typical price difference holds up...lol

Looks like red spaghetti string?

That would be correct for the 3rd gen throttle bodies, which are installed vertically.

edit: $5 at Autozone, $7 at Advanced (but Advanced always has coupons so it works out the same)

Looking at the Fel-Pro website it appears that the gasket changed for the 2000+ model for the DOHC engine only. The one you received is correct according to the application listing and your description seems to align to the photos on their website. The other part number you gave is for 1991-1999 and it is as you were expecting.

Fel-Pro 61156 Throttle Body Mounting Gasket

2000-2002 DOHC

Fel-Pro 61177 Throttle Body Mounting Gasket

1991-1999 DOHC and 1995-2002 SOHC

Trottida, just to clarify, if I go and take the TB off to clean (it is the vertical style) all I will need is the first rubber one? No metal gasket required? Just making sure.

Thanks for the help.

(Bought from Amazon because every part I bought in the order was cheaper than Advanced or Autozone, and free shipping)

For a '00-'02 DOHC all you need is the o-ring style gasket, the normal looking gasket is for the '91-'99 DOHC's and '95-'02 SOHC's.

Yep. The o-ring style gasket is pretty resilient.

I didn't bother replacing it when I replaced my aftermarket throttle body.
