2000 SL2
Dizzy 2000 SL2 crank, but won't start

I have read a few different posts in hopes I could solve my 2000 SL2 problem. We have replaced CPS, Spark Plugs, Wires, TCS, Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter. Checked timing chain, starter, spark, and oil for problems. Car turned off while driving and will not start...cranks and tries to start but doesn't. Any ideas?

You need 3 things to run (more or less)

Spark

Fuel

Compression

Do you have spark?

Do you have fuel?

Have you run a compression test?

I'd also check the PCM B fuse under the hood (it's by the green 30A ones)

Did this occur before or after replacing parts? Remove spark plugs and check for fuel on them. Yes or no? And did you examine your coolant sensor? Original round nosed plastic ones fail and sends incorrect signals resulting in rich fuel mixtures and flooded starting. Replacing it with a flat nosed brass sensor cures this problem and many other issues related to rich running conditions.

Does the chime work that warns you the key is in the ignition? If you have a FOB does it work or did it mysteriously stop?

The vehicle shut off while driving before we started replacing parts. We started trying to fix it by having the starter checked (removed) and decided to replace CPS at same time. Didn't start...replaced spark plugs, wires and the TCS (non plastic). Still didn't start...so replaced fuel filter and fuel pump.
We are still puzzled...

Chime works when the key is in, there was no keyless option with the keys when we bought the car six months ago. Is there a way to check if it has an FOB?

When the engine shut down on its own, did all instrument panel indicators drop dead too? While you're throwing parts at the car in hopes of striking a cure with no luck, you may be skipping all the basic things to check; all fuses between the two fuse panels, fuel on spark plugs after several failed starting attempts, and a visual spark test. Checking for fuel on plugs after failed starting attempts does several things; checks for injector operation, fuel pump running to generate pressure, verifies crank sensor operation, and pcm operation. Its a simple suggestion. The same for spark testing.

When testing for spark, spark indicates; the crank sensor is working, the pcm is working, and the ignition system (ignition control module and coils) are working.

Two simple tests of the EFI system. Feedback from results will determine which way to proceed, all without using parts.
