Default What is causing this engine racket?

94 SC2 5 speed... Starts, runs and drives fine but just started making this racket... Any ideas? Something bouncing around in the cams maybe?

This is a link to a short video where you can see / hear the engine.

SOunds like it will self-destruct in 5 seconds.

Valve train issues or worse( though that can be bad, too).

Park it and investigate.

Been starved of oil,now/ recently/ periodically?

OIl usage rate is( mi/quart)?

It didn't seem your AC was running in the video, correct?

It sounds like you might have an issue with your timing chain. Maybe one of the guides bit the dust? You might try a stethoscope to see if the noise is coming from under the front of the valve cover vs. anything else attached to the drive belt.

I'd pull the valve cover off to check on the timing chain. You could probably wait another 10min of idling and whatever the issue is will create a nice window though... :/

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)
